Haven x Hoka Stinson EVO GTX Shoe
Rugged, uneven, and unforgiving terrain presents many interesting challenges when hiking or trail running. Not one to be dissuaded, Haven set out to tackle the elements in style with their recent Hoka collaboration focusing on the Stinson EVO OG silhouette. Aesthetically, the Hoka Stinson EVO GTX follows many of the same design cues found on the EVO OG which was originally released back in 2012. Where the Haven influence begins to take hold is on the GORE-TEX liner and heavy earth tones that have been incorporated throughout.
If you've been following Havens recent FW25 release of their in house brand, you will quickly see how this collaboration slides perfectly into the vision. Calling upon the elements of Northern California to derive inspiration, Haven has designed a Hoka shoe that is capable of handling all-terrain through all-weather while seamlessly blending into the surroundings.
Haven x Hoka Stinson EVO GTX Shoe Details
One of the key features brought forth through this collaboration is the inclusion of the GORE-TEX® Invisible Fit membrane. Typically found on various other Hoka models including the Transport, Kaha, and Clifton, the invisible fit membrane is now, for the first time, adorning the Stinson EVO GTX. Backed by the 'Guaranteed to Keep you Dry' promise, GORE-TEX® Invisible Fit is durably waterproof to keep feet dry, form fitting for a positive secure feel, breathable to evaporate sweat, fully windproof, and super quick drying.
The mesh underlay on the upper consists of the same hexagonal pattern as seen on the OG, however, in traditional Haven fashion, this collaboration includes a colorway that is derived from neutral earth tones. Known as 'Tarmac', the hue is predominantly brown with subtle hints of green under darker lighting. A reflective TPU film overlay feature black and silver accents which mildly resemble an exoskeleton hugging the exterior.
The traditional speed lacing system is still fully in place with a black and reflective silver cord plus a black cincher and puller. Matte black eyelets secure the lacing system in place. A matching silver and black heel loop provides enough leverage to easily slide the shoes on and quickly tighten them up when in a hurry. A heavily cushioned and molded tongue comfortably secures the foot in place for a perfectly form fitted feel.
The turbo chunky midsole has a propelling rocker shape that provides a smooth rolling transition from heel to toe for running efficiency. There's plenty of foam to roam over any adverse conditions, whether it be jagged loose rocks or uneven rutted gravel, via the zero gravity technology. The highly durable outsole has serious lugs to provide substantial grip and traction even over the most slippery of surfaces. As conditions change and weather evolves, the Hoka Stinson EVO GTX can handle it all.
Subtle Haven branding can be found on the insole of the left shoe as well as along the back of the heel with a debossed logo in the microfiber strip. As is the case with the Stinson EVO OG, a subtle matching piece of microfiber also covers the end of the toe box for added durability and a slightly refined appearance.
Haven x Hoka Stinson EVO GTX Shoe Functionality
The Haven x Hoka Stinson EVO GTX is a model originally designed for performance trail running and excursion. With that in mind, it's easy to see how the functional range for this shoe can span from casual everyday wear to dedicated trail master. Due to the rugged nature of the materials and construction, the Stinson EVO GTX is capable of packing on the miles without giving an inch.
Hoka is synonymous with comfort due to the heavy emphasis on underfoot cushioning and rocker design. Gait efficiency is maximized while joint paint is minimized for even the most extreme endurance distances. If you're looking to truly tackle the terrain and look good while doing so, very few shoes will stack up against the form and function of this Haven x Hoka collaboration.
Once my pair of Hoka Stinson EVO GTXs arrive, I'll be putting them through the ringer over some mild rolling hills featuring packed gravel and varying intensities of ascent and descent. A full review will be provided in the coming month after enough miles have been logged and variations in terrain and weather have been experienced.

Hoka Background
A cult favorite amongst running enthusiasts for both on and off road, Hoka was founded in 2009 and has created quite a name for themselves by specializing in maximum cushioning over less than ideal terrain and ultra distances. Nearly all Hoka models feature a function rich midsole packed with foam and an excellent rocker geometry. The purpose built outsole has plenty of lugs, grip, and life to cover the worst you can throw at them. Originally piloted by ultra distance runners, Hoka has now found plenty of traction (no pun intended) across various running categories.
Over the year, Hoka has expanded their lineup to include models specializing in lightweight daily training such as the Clifton, ultra cushioning such as the Bondi, aggressive trail running like the Speedgoat, and lightweight performance like the Mach. The motto of maximal cushioning has runners of all abilities adopting the brand for total comfort.
